Thyroid ultrasound Zakopane – Specialist Medical Clinic Podhale Art. We cordially invite you!
Ultrasonography is one of the imaging tests used to assess the size, location and functioning of individual organs. One of them is the thyroid gland located in the neck. Its dysfunction often disturbs the functioning of the whole body, which is why quick diagnosis is so important. The pathology of this gland is usually diagnosed using laboratory tests and ultrasound, which gives the doctor a precise picture of it and allows the assessment of possible lesions such as nodules, cysts and others. It is a painless, non-invasive and safe test, and short. At the Medical Clinic Podhale Art in Zakopane, they are performed by experienced, qualified specialists.
Ultrasound of the thyroid and parathyroid glands is a test that is generally ordered as a complementary test in the case of abnormal TSH, FT3, FT4, anti-TPO and -TG antibodies. They are also performed in the case of:
Thyroid ultrasound does not require any special preparation. You should only have the results of previous examinations (ultrasound or scintigraphy), if they were performed before.
The patient uncovers the neck and removes jewelry. Thyroid ultrasound is non-invasive and painless. There may be mild discomfort if you have trouble swallowing or have an enlarged goiter. The doctor starts the examination by applying the gel to the ultrasound head. Then he presses the head of the apparatus to the examined area of the body. After taking a series of photos, carefully measuring and examining the organ, he proceeds to describe specific shots and the condition of the organ. The results of the test are therefore available immediately, and its duration should not exceed 10 minutes.
If disturbing changes in the thyroid or parathyroid glands are detected during the examination, e.g. they turn out to be enlarged (the changes may be parenchymal or nodular), further tests are usually ordered, primarily a thyroid biopsy. A biopsy involves taking a fragment of a nodule from the thyroid using a special needle. Then, the preparation obtained in this way is sent for histopathological examination, on the basis of which it is determined whether the thyroid lesion is benign or whether it is a malignant tumor.
