Dentistry Zakopane – at the Medical Clinic Podhale Art. We cordially invite you!
Endodontics, i.e. root canal treatment, consists in cleaning the root canals and the tooth chamber from diseased pulp, which has become irreversibly inflamed due to long untreated or ineffective treatment of caries. It allows you to keep even very damaged teeth without the need to extract them (pull them out) and reduce the risk of developing serious infections that can be dangerous to the entire body. It is possible thanks to advanced technologies and very precise tools used by our experienced dentists from the Medical Clinic Podhale Art in Zakopane.
Inside the tooth there are: a chamber and canals with the tooth pulp (commonly known as a nerve). When the pulp is infected, e.g. by a deep carious lesion, endodontic treatment is necessary. It consists in removing and rinsing the tissues infected with bacteria and carefully filling the canal system with gutta-percha.
The filling material is visible on X-rays as white lines.
It is a complicated procedure, in which the future maintenance of the tooth and the absence of pain depend on the accuracy and precision of execution. In the past, root canal treated teeth darkened and discolored over time. Now the problem is gone, and teeth that have discolored after endodontic treatment can be lightened / whitened.
Inflammation occurs when microbes that cause inflammation enter the pulp – this usually results in very severe, sharp pain, and the infection can spread to the bone and / or cause the pulp to die completely. However, it is worth knowing that in the case of pulp death and tissue disintegration, there may be no pain for some time.
Root canal treatment can be performed under local anesthesia, which does not require special preparation, or under general anesthesia, for which it is necessary for the patient to provide up-to-date results of general examinations and qualify for anesthesia by an anesthesiologist.
However, each case of treatment requires an initial visit.
During the visit, the doctor talks with the patient about his general health and asks him to inform him about any allergies. Then, he performs a radiographic image, thanks to which it is possible to assess the root canals (size, shape) and the surroundings of the tooth.
The first stage of endodontic treatment is opening the root canal entrance and covering the tooth with a cofferdam. It is a special rubber that protects the tooth against bacteria present in the saliva and chemicals used to clean the root canal. Then the doctor, using tools made of nickel and titanium alloys, cleans and prepares the diseased tissue, removing bacteria from the infected pulp and the surrounding dentin.
Precise cleaning of the tooth is possible thanks to specialized microscopic equipment, thanks to which the specialist obtains an accurate picture of the lesions.
Advanced technology allows you to perform even the most complex treatment on narrow and winding canals.
Then, after thorough disinfection and drying of the tooth, free spaces in the canals are filled with the so-called biocompatible material – most often gutta-percha. It is a non-toxic natural substance (polymer). It is obtained in a similar way to natural rubber, which does not adversely affect the body’s immune system. Its use guarantees hermetic closure of the root and prevents it from re-entering the interior of bacteria.
Dentistry Zakopane at the Medical Clinic Podhale Art – we provide root canal treatment using the most modern equipment. It allows the dentist to thoroughly clean and heal a sick tooth. Thanks to precise tools, modern technologies and many years of experience, we treat even the most difficult cases.
Each root canal treatment is different, but some procedures are common:
The canals are filled with the best material for this purpose – gutta-percha. Its task is to tightly close the lumen of the canal along its entire length in order to eliminate the penetration of bacteria into the tooth tissues.
The reconstruction of the tooth in terms of the material used and the size of the restoration varies depending on the type of tooth being treated. Often in the case of treating molars with a large cavity filling, these teeth should be covered with a prosthetic crown.
