After some time, the affected enamel becomes porous (visible as white or dark spots), which causes even more bacteria to enter the tooth, resulting in a cavity.

Tooth decay, depending on the severity, can manifest itself in the form of white or dark spots on the enamel surface (initial caries) or in the form of an evident cavity in a tooth, into which food remains can penetrate (deep caries). Accompanying symptoms may be sensitivity to extreme temperatures (warm, cold) and additionally sweet and sour flavors. Especially in the case of deeper cavities, symptoms of spontaneous pain and biting may appear.
