Anesthesia dentistry for adults and children

Dentistry in anesthesia Zakopane – Medical Clinic Podhale Art. We cordially invite you!

Many people associate dental procedures with stress, discomfort and hours spent in the dentist’s chair. Thanks to the use of anesthesia, it does not have to be that way. Narcosis at the dentist’s office definitely minimizes treatment-related anxiety and pain. At the Medical Clinic Podhale Art in Zakopane, both adults and children, we offer a full range of dental services under anesthesia – conservative dentistry, dental surgery, prosthetics.

Both the initial consultation and treatments – if there are no contraindications – can take place in one day.

During the consultation, the doctor asks in detail about diseases or ailments. Sometimes they exclude the use of general anesthesia (e.g. allergy). Experienced anaesthesiologists ensure the safety of the procedure at all times.

What is anesthesia in dentistry?

Narcosis, also known as general anesthesia, is a doctor-controlled, absolutely safe patient for the duration of the procedure. The purpose of its application is, above all, to ensure the patient’s comfort and efficient treatment.

Individually selected dose of anesthetic drug inhibits the activity of the nervous center for a certain period of time.

Medicines introduced into the patient’s body, so-called anesthetics, cause loss of consciousness and relieve pain. Drugs relax the muscles and stabilize the circulatory system. Thanks to this, the dentist can carry out even very complex and time-consuming procedures without pain.

Recommendations for the treatment of teeth under anesthesia

When the process of treating teeth may be difficult, it is worth considering general anesthesia. They are used, among others in the case of conservative dentistry, pediatric dentistry, surgical treatment or implantology. However, there are cases when dental anesthesia treatment is particularly recommended. Belong to them:

  • Dentophobia

This is a fear of dental treatment that is difficult to control. Whether it is teeth whitening, porcelain veneers or a very serious procedure, some patients are completely unaffected by fear from visiting the dentist.

  • Hypersensitivity or illness

In the case of patients who have very sensitive teeth, disease or disability that make the standard procedure impossible, it is best to use anesthetic treatment.

  • Complicated / long procedure

General anesthesia allows for many hours of comprehensive treatments. Several different types of dental procedures can be performed during one visit.

Advantages of the procedure under anesthesia

Patients who decide to undergo dental anesthesia treatment are motivated by various factors, such as fear of surgery, illness or unpleasant memories related to the dentist.

Thanks to the use of general anesthesia, they gain:

  • help in overcoming the fear of a dentist’s office,
  • sleep, thanks to which stress disappears during treatment,
  • minimizing possible pain and discomfort during the procedure,
  • enabling the performance of more complex and time-consuming procedures.
Preparation

In order to prepare well for the procedure under general anesthesia, you should remember the following rules:

  • do not eat for 5 hours before the planned procedure, and drink for 3 hours,
  • on the day of the procedure, you can only drink still water and tea,
  • the anaesthesiologist should be consulted about taking oral medications,
  • just before the procedure, dentures and contact lenses should be removed.
Contraindications

You should abandon the procedure (postpone it to a different date) if you experience an infection with fever, cough or a strong runny nose, especially a respiratory tract infection (pneumonia, bronchitis, laryngitis). Contraindications for the procedure under general anesthesia also include unstable chronic diseases, such as bronchial asthma, hypertension or ischemic heart disease.

After treatment

You cannot drink alcohol, drive or use machines one day after the treatment. You should also strictly follow any doctor’s instructions.
