Hyperpigmentation appears on the skin with age and is largely the result of prolonged exposure of the skin to sunlight. Laser discoloration removal is one of the most effective methods to get rid of unsightly stains. At Medical Clinic Podhale Art, we remove discolorations using one of the most modern lasers.
Skin discoloration is a common problem that affects more women than men. Most of them are formed on the face, neckline and hands, i.e. parts of the body most exposed to UV rays. They are the result of excessive production of melanin, which is the natural pigment of the skin, produced by cells called melanocytes. Melanocytes have long projections through which they connect with epidermal cells – keratinocytes – and transmit to them oval bodies containing pigment (melanosomes). The shade of our skin, which is genetically determined, depends on the number and activity of melanocytes.
The main causes of pigmentation changes on the skin include:
Post-inflammatory discoloration is removed with laser in our clinic.
Melanocytes are located in the basal layer of the epidermis and this is where the laser energy is concentrated. When its beam penetrates the skin, numerous microchannels are formed, creating small damages in the stratum corneum. It is thanks to this that the energy gets to where the melanocytes are located. After the treatment, the skin is slightly swollen, reddened and small scabs may appear, but when they fall off naturally (they cannot be picked off), pigmentation changes are reduced, and the skin becomes more tense and rejuvenated.
For a few days, you should avoid agents that additionally irritate the skin, UV rays, and take care of the appropriate level of hydration. Detailed information on post-treatment care will be provided by the specialist who performed it.
